My employer is forcing us to stay weekends w/o pay, legal?
Main Post:
Update: Thanks all. I was looking for some advice on what to do and I'm going to follow it.
My job HQ is located in NYC (Manhattan, NY) but I am a remote worker. I travel all over the North East collecting GPS data.
My employer is forcing "mandatory weekend stays" in the regions we travel to, without pay. When we travel to a region in the NE we are being told we can't drive home on Friday. They'll pay for our hotel and food so we can stay there, but we don't actually get paid to stay there, and we aren't allowed to actually work (data collect) on the weekend. Is this legal?
My job also put a cap on our hours, they told us we can't work more than 12 hours a day/ 60 hours a week. Is that legal?
I've been with my job for almost a year and a half, so I asked to see my contract but so far I've been given a run around.
I appreciate all the help!

One of two things is happening:
- They don't care what you do with your weekend but won't pay your travel expenses to and from home. You're free to pay your own money to leave as long as you're back in place for your next shift. You can deduct the resulting business expenses on your taxes and suck it up or find a new job. I can't imagine it's illegal, especially in the SE US.
- You must stay in the region in question and will be fired for leaving. You are on call even though they swear you aren't. They must pay you for the time.
Edit- just ask your supervisor if you're allowed to go home on your own dime and be back on time Monday morning. If the answer is no start tracking your hours and looking for a new job because you ill be illegally fired when you make a wage claim. If the answer is yes just find a new job because yours sucks.
Legal Way to let friend stay, without getting yourself into a landlord/tenant relationship?
Main Post:
So, about three times per week in LA, we get the 'how do I get this asshole out of my house / guesthouse / airbnb / investment property / home we shared when we were dating / etc. We always have to give them the bad news "You're a landlord now. Sucks to be you. Eviction forms are on the desk. Enjoy the next 2-6 months of frustrating legal proceedings!"
So my question is... is there a way to be a nice guy and let someone stay at a vacant home you own or in a spare room of your house, WITHOUT creating a landlord / tenant relationship? Can you sign an agreement that classifies them as a guest instead of a resident, so that if you revoke their invite, they're now trespassing and the police can just handle it?
I'm guessing it's probably location dependent. I'm in Oklahoma, but since I'm not presently in that position, I don't NEED answers specific to me. I'm just interested if there are options to allow people to protect themselves when they're trying to do someone a favor by giving them a place to stay for a certain amount of time, without risking that getting dragged out if it goes bad.
Top Comment: Probably depends on the location, but usually the limit is 30 days. If your friend is staying with you for less than 30 days, they are a guest. But once they pass 30 days, they have more rights and are considered a tenant. This is why some weekly hotels will make you move out of your room after 28 days or so -- to try to avoid this particular relationship.

Sleep.
If someone is over 21 and they "runaway" from their legal guardians would it be kidnapping to let them stay with you?
Main Post:
A friend of mine is over 21 years old but because of BPD (it's really pretty mild) their mother talked them into signing guardianship over to them. I'm trying to help her figure out how to get out of it, but it looks like a pretty extended process. Her mother is extremely controlling (think abusive boyfriend type controlling but as her mother). So I'm just wanting to know if I could get into trouble by letting her stay at my home if she "runs away"

What is the legal standing of "Stay back 200 feet, not responsible for broken windshields" stickers on the back of trucks carrying dirt?

Top Comment: Depends on the locality but typically they are not responsible for objects flung from the roadway. They are however responsible for things coming out of their truck.
Top 5 brands + stay away from!
Main Post:
Top 5 brands on the OCS currently, LP’s to stay away from and honourable mentions. List is in no order because that is to personal (I guess?)
My top 5 would be -Broken Coast (Consistent quality weed where I smile every time I open the jar) -Redecan (Value + great quality) -Gage (I’m pretty sure this is burner/cookies from Cali. Radical medical has been a dope company from the start, super terpy weed) -Simply Bare (I couldn’t decide which “Organic” company to go with but I think Simply Bare takes the cake) -Color Cannabis (WeedMD, this was a close one but thinking about it all their strains across the board are quality+value, they really come threw for a lot of newer consumers & regulars)
Brands to stay away from:
-Tweed -Good Supply (I’m going to get a lot of hate on this but it’s just SO DRY, buds are shit but high is there, meh) -The Batch (horrible filler weed, so many better value options out there now) -Trailblazer (Again, just better options out there, cheap filler weed, glad we don’t see this around much anymore) -Aurora (hate to do it but yes, they have good brands like San Raph 71, but they need to step it up as a massive producer, again, like Canopy)
Honourable mentions go to
-Namaste (Ultra sour, wappa, D bubba, all solid strains for solid prices) -7 Acres (almost should be in top 5, only thing thing I didn’t like by them is their “Craft Collection” for close to $63/3.5g) -Riff (I know it’s Aphria & same growers I guess as good supply but much fresher bud and classic strains)
There are many more we can discuss but this is mine!! Let me know what you think and tell me yours!
Top Comment: Top 5 for 2020: Simply Bare Broken Coast Color Cannabis Redecan Tantalus Labs 5 Eh - Brands that have 1 amazing strain OR 2 safe options, but aren’t quite TOP 5: Pure Sunfarms Haven St. Premium Emerald Sundial Namaste 5 Nah: Tweed/TWD/Van Der Whatever (though I’ll say the Donegal is decent mid) FIGR Hexo RIFF (way too inconsistent) Aurora (note: Gage just never has any stock, but they’d be top 10 easily)
